The Chowan Baptist Association identified a need for an outdoor camping facility. The Cale family heard about the need and donated 50 acres along the Perquimans River and eventually another 26 acres. With these happenings Cale was founded in 1961 and the first campers began arriving in 1963. Through the years Cale has expanded both in land, buildings, and the number of campers it can serve. Cale gained 24 more acres from a donation from the McNair-Carl Estate, bringing our numbers up to 100 acres. In January 2013 our Conference Center, the centerpiece building of our camp was completed. Cale’s growth continues thanks to the continued support, of churches, businesses, individuals, and the community.
