In 1959 the Chowan Baptist Association began a study on starting a summer assembly. James Cale heard about the need and donated 50 acres of land and later 26 more acres to the association. After several years of site development, a road was cut through the woods, bulkhead put in place and the earliest buildings erected. The camp invited its first campers in the summer of 1963.
Throughout the years Cale has continued to develop and grow through the hard work of dedicated individuals and the work of the churches in the Chowan Baptist Association. The dedication of those early individuals has laid the foundation for the continued development of Cale. Our future plans call for the updating of our infrastructure and the building of a conference center and lodges.
