Activities

Cale provides the following year-round activities:

Archery
Cale has a full archery range, which includes both round targets and full-size deer decoys. A member of the Cale staff will always be on hand to help out with the variety of bows, including small recurve bows to Matthews, Genesis, and Browning compound bows.
Basketball
Two full asphalt courts are available. We ask that no skateboards be on the basketball courts.
Camp Fire
Evening camp fires are a great camp tradition, and it only gets better when sitting beside the beautiful Perquimans River or in the middle of the forest at our prayer garden. Our staff supplies the fire wood and builds the fire.
Canoeing
Launch out on the Perquimans River to explore to discover its natural beauty. A variety of animals are commonly seen while paddling the river, including swans, geese, ducks, bald eagles, otters, many types of fish, and even dolphins during warmer weather. Life jackets must be worn securely by all participants.
Low Rope Course
Tackle six challenges on the low ropes course, such as scaling an 11-foot wall to escape attacking “headhunters”, swinging over a “pool of sharks”, or walking hundreds of feet above a “canyon” on a thin cable. The low ropes course makes for a great team-building exercise for 8-12 people. The standard time to complete the low ropes course is an hour and 15 minutes.
High Rope Course
Take adventure to the next level on Cale’s high ropes course. Make your way along a series of cables, rope swings, and balance beams…20 feet off the ground! Safety is always a priority and all participants are required to wear safety harnesses and helmets. A staff member will be present for patient instruction and encouragement at all times. The standard time to complete the high ropes course is 1 to 2 hours. This activity works well with 4-8 people. No youth under age 12 are allowed on the high ropes course due to insurance restrictions.
Horseshoes
Cale offers to offical-sized courts and shoes for your enjoyment.
Nature Walk
Our well-marked trails wind around the camp, offering a new discovery around each corner. The entire route is approximately 2 miles, although there are shortcuts for those looking for a more leisurely stroll.
Rifle Marksmanship
Take a crack at paper or moving targets with our Marlin, bolt-action .22 caliber rifles. Our staff is Hunter Education certified and ready to assist you. Cale supplies the rifles, ammunition, targets, as well as eye and ear protection, which must be worn at all times. Cased firearms from home are welcome, but ammunition must be purchased from the camp.
Rock Wall
Cale’s 24-foot high and 42-foot long rock wall will challenge both the beginner and advanced climber. You can choose to start easy on the “Chimney”, or head straight for the very challenging “No Man’s Land.” Cale staff must be on-hand and climbers must use the provided harnesses.
Sports Field
Cale’s large grass sports field is optimal for softball, kickball, tug-of-war, ultimate Frisbee, and more. Bases are provided upon request.
Swimming: Lifeguards are required
The beautiful, clear Perquimans River is great for swimming. All swimming activities must be supervised by a Red Cross certified or YMCA life guard (excluding baptisms). A two-week advance notice is needed for reserving a life guard. Hard-bottomed shoes or sandals are required as occasional open clam shells on the river floor can be a hazard.
Trap Shooting
Also known as skeet shooting, trap shooting involves shooting at flying clay discs with a 20- or 12-gauge shotgun. Cale’s Promatic-brand skeet throwers offer a variety of challenges, including singles, doubles, high and low. Cale supplies the shotguns, ammunition, and targets, as well as eye and ear protection, which must be worn at all times. Cased firearms from home are welcome, but ammunition must be purchased from the camp.
Volleyball
Cale features an official-size sand court with a regulation net and balls.
